Post Family Farm Pumpkin Patch

As with most recent years, we made an October visit to Post Family Farm for the playgrounds, animals, hay rides, and pumpkins.

But mostly the donuts. All the donuts.

My Recent Trip to Michigan

After having been away since Memorial Day, I recently spent two weeks in Michigan with the girls. I saw the dazzling total solar eclipse on a Monday (my advice: never miss a chance to be in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse!), worked part of Tuesday, and then headed up to the top of Great Smoky Mountains National Park to spend a few hours photographing the night sky. Here’s one picture for now – more coming on that later in a future post:

October Family Time in Michigan

After a quick business trip to Tulsa, I spent the last week of October in Michigan, because the girls wanted me to be there for Halloween.

State Tree Climbing Competition

This post is not any sort of recap of the Michigan Tree Climbing Championships, just a few pictures of the girls at Kids’ Climb part of the event, which gives kids a chance to rope climb up into the trees under the guidance of an expert. The event is right around the corner from our house at Prospect Park, and Aly was excited for it to return after discovering it last year.

Labor Day Weekend At The Beach

I drove straight through to Michigan on the Friday before Labor Day and arrived early on Saturday morning.  We hit the pool on Saturday after while I was still mostly vegetative, and then headed out to Saugatuck Dunes State Park on Sunday. Unlike our last trip to SSP back in July, it was not freezing, nor did we have the place to ourselves.

My Week Up In Michigan

During my 4th of July stay back up in Michigan, there were several things worth noting, but not quite large enough for individual blog posts, so I’m consolidating some of the week into this one post. First off, I received a great welcome home, with a banner made by each of the girls.

Summer Date Night with Aly

Aly and I have a tradition of going to Saugatuck Dunes State Park at least one evening each summer for a hike, swim and sunset. This year’s date took place the week of July 4th, while I was back in Michigan. And yes, it involved finding clothing on “Naked People Trail”, as in past years.

A Family Trip to the Beach

After the pool on Friday and the sprinklers on Saturday, it was time Sunday morning to head to that other West Michigan water institution: Lake Michigan. My favorite spot is at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, so we grabbed some sand toys and a picnic lunch, then hiked down Beach Trail to the water for a day of fun in the sun.
