After the official anniversary celebration the night before, we arose to a beautiful day and enjoyed a lovely Grand Hotel breakfast in the dining room with our favorite waiters, including Mr Jaferay.
Grand Hotel 50 Day Two
Sunday!
We gathered up and headed down to breakfast in the main dining room to meet the rest of the clan.
Grand Hotel 50 Day One
We woke up and had breakfast with the East Coast Goudies and then the kids swam in the hotel’s indoor pool and hot tub – all to themselves.
Whipping Walloon
On our way to Mackinaw City, we took the girls to Walloon Lake for a quick visit on a cold, windy June day. This was the first time to Walloon for all three girls. The car said the air temperature was 50 degrees and the wind was fairly constant around 30, quickly proving that we didn’t have warm enough gear, but at least it made the “Daddy can we swim?” question immediately moot.
Backyard Playing With The Girls
We’ve been having a lot of fun in the yard over the last few weeks as the weather turned and the yard greened up. These photos are from a few recent days.
Silhouettes & Frustration
On a recent sunny day, I made my first visit to Macatawa Greenway, on the site of the former Holland Country Club. The area is being restored to a natural state, though some of the former golf course is now an unmanicured disc golf course. At my first stop to take a photograph, below a bridge along the creek, I stood next to a rock with a large frog sunning himself on top of the rock, and a two-foot water snake relaxing under the same rock (not pictured). It’s great to see this area returning to public-use greenspace, though it has a ways yet to completely fill back in.
