After baking the day before, I headed out early Sunday morning to explore downtown Greenville on foot. I parked at the zoo near Cleveland Park then walked through Cleveland Park to Falls Park, then up and down Main Street before walking Washington Ave back to the car. I ended up just as hot as the day before and walking more than 4 miles, but it was great, because the parks are truly spectacular and the downtown corridor is beautiful.
Exploring SC: Paris [Mountain] is Burning
I was itching to get back into the mountains after the past few weeks, despite the arrival of the humidity to go with the already-present heat. I decided to head out early and stay somewhat close to home at Paris Mountain State Park, hiking two trails that were new to me.
Devin, pretty much all growed up
I’d like to pen this as a “I can’t believe this, it makes me so old” take, but instead, I’ll just say that I’m really proud of Devin and his parents threw one hell of a graduation party.
My Week Up In Michigan
During my 4th of July stay back up in Michigan, there were several things worth noting, but not quite large enough for individual blog posts, so I’m consolidating some of the week into this one post. First off, I received a great welcome home, with a banner made by each of the girls.
Summer Date Night with Aly
Aly and I have a tradition of going to Saugatuck Dunes State Park at least one evening each summer for a hike, swim and sunset. This year’s date took place the week of July 4th, while I was back in Michigan. And yes, it involved finding clothing on “Naked People Trail”, as in past years.
A Family Trip to the Beach
After the pool on Friday and the sprinklers on Saturday, it was time Sunday morning to head to that other West Michigan water institution: Lake Michigan. My favorite spot is at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, so we grabbed some sand toys and a picnic lunch, then hiked down Beach Trail to the water for a day of fun in the sun.
4th of July 2015
I drove most of the way from South Carolina after work on Thursday, July 2, stopping for the night east of Indianapolis, then finished up the drive the next morning, insuring I would be home in time for the annual blow-things-up day. Of course, we didn’t wait until the actual 4th to start.
