Family, Life in Holland Michigan

My Recent Trip to Michigan

After having been away since Memorial Day, I recently spent two weeks in Michigan with the girls. I saw the dazzling total solar eclipse on a Monday (my advice: never miss a chance to be in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse!), worked part of Tuesday, and then headed up to the top of Great Smoky Mountains National Park to spend a few hours photographing the night sky. Here’s one picture for now – more coming on that later in a future post:

I got a few hours of sleep at the Hilton Garden Inn in Gatlinburg before driving the rest of the way up to Holland. We had a great couple weeks playing around the house, enjoying downtown Holland, and helping the girls settle into their new school routines. Aly is now a middle schooler, and Leah is in first grade.

We also got to spend a fun day in Kalamazoo with Lizzy, Kevin, and adorable Maverick. We started out at Gull Meadow Farms, an apple orchard with kidtainment activities (seems this is the standard for orchards these days), followed by lunch at the delicious Chinn-Chinn. We then headed back to their lovely forest house for some play time.

Everybody loved playing in the corn sandbox

The bouncing pad was also a big hit

You’ve still got it, Kev, still got it

Thankfully the llama liked Aly enough not to spit on her, but we did hear it spit on/near someone else a bit later
