A Family Trip to the Beach

Aren't you glad I fixed the overcooked colors from the July 4th pictures?

After the pool on Friday and the sprinklers on Saturday, it was time Sunday morning to head to that other West Michigan water institution: Lake Michigan. My favorite spot is at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, so we grabbed some sand toys and a picnic lunch, then hiked down Beach Trail to the water for a day of fun in the sun.

It was a beautiful morning to be at the beach, warm and calm, but with one slight downside: the water was freezing. There were plenty of people at the beach, and there would be many as the day went on, but there were very few who stayed in the water for long. When the small kids and the teenage boys aren’t staying in the water, you know that’s some cold water. Aly did manage to get each of her parents to “swim” for a minute or two at some point, but once was enough. We spent the remainder of the time knee-deep in the water or digging pools/castles. It was a ton of fun, as usual, and of course, involved Aly wanting to be buried in the sand.

Aly's sand pool was so impressive it attracted other kids and we deeded the property over to this girl when we left
