It’s all about the cold
Well, that’s how it ends up anyway. It seems we freeze every year at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Holland, despite the fact that the small scale of the parade means we can park right on the parade route and stay in the car until the parade starts. This year was no exception, with a breeze from the north making 27 degrees feel a lot colder. Aly decided that sitting on the curb waiting was too cold, so she got her booster seat and sat on that instead.
Leah decided to join her, so I asked them to pose for a few pictures:

Aly lasted about five minutes before realizing that she didn’t want to wait in the cold any longer, so she hopped in the back of my car.
Okay, it’s really all about the candy.
Finally the parade started towards us and the candy showers began. Aly turned her hat into the candy bucket as parade marchers tossed candy and beads to us while the girls waved their Irish flags.
As you can see, it is clearly all about the candy, bead necklaces, and other promotional goodies from local businesses. Leah was freezing and loudly unhappy about it, so we headed home where Aly started the halloweenish ritual of sorting candy.
